Bumper 19-car entry as Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Rockets into Season Eight

Malaysia. (April 4, 2019) – When the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia 2019 bursts into life this weekend for the start of season eight at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit, the grid will include a bumper entry of champion-winning sportscar professionals and talented newcomers, each determined to make a name for themselves in the world’s fastest one-make GT series.

The formidable fleet of 19 Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO racing thoroughbreds will take to the 5.542km FIA Grade 1 circuit for two, 50-minute races at the season-opening double header. With four championship titles to be won – Pro, Pro-Am, Am and the Lamborghini Cup – intense on-track action throughout the field is guaranteed.
In the Pro category, Evan Chen, second in last year’s Pro-Am class, teams up with three-time Porsche Carrera Cup Asia champion Chris van der Drift, the ultra-quick Kiwi making his Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia debut at Sepang this weekend.

In the #63 FFF Racing Team car are Takashi Kasai of Japan and Finland’s Juuso Puhakka, winner of the Pro-Am class last year. Kasai and Puhakka partnered during this year’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East where they finished second overall in the Pro category of the six-round championship. The sister FFF Racing Team car will be raced by China’s Steven Lin in the Am Class, who returns to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia after an absence of several seasons.
Winner of the first race at last year’s World Final and Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Pro champion in 2017, Kei Cozzolino partners with fellow Japanese driver Takamichi Matsuda, who made his series debut last year in the Lamborghini Cup class. This year, he joins the Pro-Am category with Cozzolino, who was Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Champion in 2017.

Twenty-seven-year-old Afiq Yazid is back, this season with Hojust Racing. In a Pro pairing with Cozzolino for the past two seasons, the Malaysian will contest the Pro-Am class with Toshiyuki Ochiai. Ochiai was third in last year’s ultra-competitive Pro-Am class.

Runner-up in the opening race of last year’s World Final, Australian Richard Muscat is another returnee, this time with GDL Racing. Muscat, who took one Pro victory in 2018, will team up with fellow Australian Danny Stutterd, who has previously raced in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia, Australian GT championship and at the Bathurst 12 Hour where he took a Class B GT3 Cup podium last year.
Hong Kong driver Alex Au, whose experience includes the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup and the Super Taikyu Series, will race in the Pro-Am category in the #66 Vincenzo Sospiri Racing Srl car alongside Japan’s Yuki Nemoto, who previously competed in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe and in the Japanese F3 championship last season.

Twenty-three-year-old Brendon Leitch of New Zealand joins Singapore’s Lim Keong Wee at Leipert for the opening races of the season. Although Lim has raced previously in the Super Trofeo in Europe and in Asia, Sepang marks the series debut for Leitch, a Toyota Racing Series regular.
The Am category for FIA bronze-rated drivers includes reigning Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup champion Andrew Haryanto in the #18 Reuben car.
Brothers Sarun and Saravut Sereethoranakul of Thailand will team up again in the Am category racing the #57 PSC Starch Products car. Malaysian driver Kumar Prabakaran returns for a second season in the Lamborghini Cup class, entered in the #98 Vincenzo Sospiri Racing Srl car, while Zen Low will race with Aylezo Motorsports alongside series newcomer but experienced GT racer, Angelo Negro. Chinese driver Han Huilin returns with T Squared Racing after a successful Super Trofeo Middle East Campaign just a few weeks ago.

Hong Kong drivers Kenneth Lau and Michael Choi team up at Sepang with KLM Racing, while a second GDL Racing car will see Hong Kong’s Vincent Wong partner Chinese driver Sui Lung Cheung. At the wheel of the third GDL Racing car is Italian Gabriele Murroni, who competes in the Lamborghini Cup. Murroni was second in last year’s Cup and most recently won the category in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East 2019.

Hong Kong’s Paul Wong, winner of the 2018 Lamborghini Cup, is back to defend his title but this time the 852 Challengers have two entries, the second for Clement Li who competed with Wong last season.

Fellow Hong Kong driver Siu Yuk Lung, a seasoned Porsche Carrera Cup Asia competitor, makes his Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia debut in Sepang with LKM Racing.

The opening double-header of the season gets underway this weekend at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit. Two one-hour official free practice sessions take place on Friday. Two 15-minute qualifying sessions on Saturday afternoon set the grid for Race 1 and Race 2, respectively. On Saturday evening, the field will blast off the grid for the first time in 2019 with the opening 50-minute race at 19:30 local time (GMT+8). On Sunday, the 50-minute Race 2 starts at 15:20 local time.
